For our Benelux series this week we are travelling from Groningen to ‘s-Hertogenbosch. ‘Den Bosch’, with it’s Burgundian culture and new initiatives popping up will surely make your day.
Shopping and coffee
A new kid in town is the beautiful Daily Poetry. This living room slash shop also has a secret garden and a self-service cafe where you can work, dream and unwind. In their shop, some of our favourite labels (People Tree, Harry & Wunderwerk) are represented.
Den Bosch is also great for vintage shopping. Mieters (moving to the same street as Daily Poetry in April) offers vintage treasures AND coffee! Other addresses for vintage shopping are Mister Orange and Vintage room.
Food & Drinks
Lunch break? BOERgondisch offers honest and tasty food from local suppliers. Also nice for lunch or dinner is restaurant/winebar Pollevie located on a nice little square hidden just behind the busy market. One third of the menu is vegetarian and the chef uses local and organic ingredients.
For a nice dinner and maybe a movie after we recommend the old cookie factory Verkade fabriek. This great venue is for a large part powered by it’s solar panels and the menu features delicious organic and natural ingredients.
When to visit?
Visiting Den Bosch is always a good idea but a particular nice time to hit this city is during Jazz in Duketown. The biggest free jazz festival takes place from 22 – 25 May 2015. Get ready for over 80 different artists and bands playing at 10 stages in the city.
